Bien Becomes the First African Artist Signed to Quality Control Music
Kenya’s Bien-Aimé Baraza becomes the first African artist signed to Atlanta’s Quality Control Music and releases “I’ll Be Okay.”

The former Sauti Sol frontman joins the Atlanta label behind Migos, Lil Baby and City Girls, and marks the moment with a new single.
Kenyan music has a new first to point to. Bien-Aimé Baraza, the voice that fronted Sauti Sol for nearly two decades, has signed with Quality Control Music, the Atlanta label behind Migos, Lil Baby and City Girls. He is the first African artist on its roster.
To mark the announcement, Bien released a new solo single, “I’ll Be Okay.”
The deal lands at the peak of a solo run that few predicted when Sauti Sol went on hiatus. Bien was the most streamed Kenyan artist on Spotify in 2024, and in 2025 he won Best Artist in Eastern Africa at the Trace Awards in Zanzibar. His debut solo album, Alusa, Why Are You Topless?, and its deluxe edition cemented him as a songwriter and hitmaker in his own right, not just a member of a group.
Quality Control is one of the most influential names in American hip-hop, built on finding artists early and turning them into global acts. Its choice of a Kenyan singer says something about where East African music now sits. For years, Bien has argued that the region’s sound is overlooked next to West and South African music, and that the gap comes down to marketing money. A label with Quality Control’s reach is exactly that kind of backing.
The move follows a US run that included an appearance on The Breakfast Club, where Bien described going solo as a second lease on life. He has also said he wants to work with American names such as Beyoncé and Coco Jones. Standing on a major US label’s roster makes those conversations considerably easier.
Terms of the deal have not been made public. Whether “I’ll Be Okay” is the first of a larger project is also unconfirmed. For now, the signing is a milestone for Kenyan music and a sign that the continent’s next wave of stars may not need to leave home to be heard.
